Staying Put

Kookaburra and I have been lucky enough to have found two great jobs in Western Australia that we're planning to stay at for a few months.

We originally heard about a caravan cleaning job from a family that we spent the day with at a rest stop, having fun in the river. We drove back an hour to see if the job was still there.

After informing us that they couldn't give us more then a few days a week, they suggested that we try next door at the tavern. We walked over and were happy to hear that they were just about to lose kitchen staff and we could start the next day.

The town has two beaches within easy walking distance. The job comes with a pool we can use, and a nice air conditioned room.

We're currently living with the other staff members with a shared kitchen and outside area. Everyone we've meet here have been extremely kind and considerate.

There's a really small Parkrun in Karratha that we enjoy going to every Saturday. I volunteered the first week because of a small injury and was surprised that we only had 9 people. Since then we've had a few more people turn up and a few less as well.

Having fewer people means we've gotten to know everyone quicker, it also means that a few times now one of us has been assigned tail walker as the last one in.

We were planning on taking small trips around the area but we haven't had many days off together and when we do we just want to rest. Not to mention that it's way too hot to do any exploring.

There's also a great path around the town that I like to run early in the morning. The town itself isn't big enough to run around and get 5km so I have to run 700m to one of the beaches where the path ends before running back the way I've come. I then run 1.8km the other way before turning around when the path ends.

For most of the way I can see the ocean which is nice but the best part is watching the sunrise every time. Before traveling I have to say it was a rare thing for me to be up before the sun, so watching the sunrise over the ocean now is a really nice treat.
